Last weekend I spent a day in Mussoorie, a hill station one hour from Dehradun. I traveled in a WII car with Stephanie and Molly, two undergraduates from Williams and Mary College in Virginia who are interning at WII until July and August, respectively. In Mussoorie, we visited my friend Yoav, the Fulbright Scholar studying Indian trees who I met on my first day in Delhi, as well as Kate, another Fulbrighter who recently arrived to study labor laws.
We spent the day strolling along the main mall, dining on delicious South Indian food and waffles (!), climbing the steep road to the Landour Language School where Yoav and Kate are studying Hindi, and enjoying the cool mountain breeze that drizzled us with fresh moisture and offered us relief from the heavy humidity of the valley below.
Stephanie, Molly and I at Kempti Falls.
Kempti, with dozens of Indians playing in the pool below. Some of the women wore full saris into the water, and all of them were covered from head to toe in clothing.
A view into the hills of Mussoorie, where Tibetan prayer flags adorn the roof top terraces.
A backyard view of Indian life.
